Licensing Rules |
The Department of Culture, Media and Sport advises that, in contrast to most live music, busking is normally classed as “incidental” to other activities (such as shopping), so is not licensable. However, some authorities have passed by-laws concerning street entertainment, so in these cases a licence may be required. A list of all the authorities in the UK that this applies to can be found here. However, if you are entering in to any of the following activity you will ALWAYS need a licence: Performing for Charity If you are collecting money for charity, you will need to apply for a Street Collections licence. These are issued so that your collection does not clash with those of other charities. These licences can be obtained from your local council. |

Selling CDs and Other Items If you are selling anything you will need a Street Trading Licence, which can also be obtained from your local council. Other advice: Amplification I would advise that you check with the local council before using any amplification equipment. Children Children under 14 may not busk.
